Random Downloads

Something is occurring at my Mediafire that I dislike. Files are being downloaded that I didn't specifically link to in my posts. If any of my LJ friends are doing this, I ask you to stop. Not everything on my Mediafire space is there for sharing. If I have to, I'll get more stringent about how I use it, but I'd prefer to be able to trust you all not to infringe on my work and privacy and take things that weren't offered.

Can thing like that happen even if you didn't share your MF page directly?! O_O that's a bit scary :( I would be annoyed as you if something like this happens to my folder ><
I really liked the "password protect" features! why did they remove it :|

Hope no one will do that again to your private files ^^

Thank you, dear! Yes, it's perturbing!
Nov. 17th, 2016 06:16 pm (UTC)
Is that even possible? i mean .... just.... rude!
Nov. 17th, 2016 06:30 pm (UTC)
It seems that way! Because things that should have been DLd only once (by me) were DLd 4 or 6 times. :(
Nov. 17th, 2016 06:26 pm (UTC)
I didn't even know that was possible.
sorry this is happpening to you, I hope whoever is doing it stops.
Nov. 17th, 2016 06:31 pm (UTC)
I've been watching it for a while. I didn't say anything until someone downloaded a work that I'm editing for a friend which she is going to publish. There's all kinds of issues with that, in terms of her right to protect her work. I guess it's my fault, which doesn't make me happy either.
Nov. 17th, 2016 06:31 pm (UTC)
Wow, people sure can be rude, huh? I'm appalled that's even possible :( I hope whoever's doing this will stop now that you've called them out.
Nov. 17th, 2016 06:33 pm (UTC)
Thank you, dear. I accept that it was done out of innocent curiosity, but it feels intrusive.

I generally believe in the goodness of people, but with the Internet, the degree of anonymity seems to embolden people to do things they wouldn't do if they had to face the person they were doing it to.

Whoa? That scary, maybe setting up new account? Mediafire used to have pasword set up option, but now its only available for payed account, does your account the payed one?

Nov. 18th, 2016 02:25 am (UTC)
No, but that's one of my options for protecting people's stuff, for sure!

That is possible? But you've never shared folder link before right? Since chances will be slim unless someone managed to hack your mediafire password.
I think the paid one have record history of downloader..
Nov. 18th, 2016 02:26 am (UTC)
That would be nice. Then I could solve the mystery!

I didn't know you could do that. I have only ever clicked on the links people provided.
Nov. 18th, 2016 02:25 am (UTC)
I didn't either, and yet there are more downloads than expected.

Heeeey long time no see! How are you?

This sounds scary and very intrusive. Perhaps you could consider using a different account for your private files?
Nov. 18th, 2016 03:28 am (UTC)
Yeah, then I'd have to have a different e-mail address. But it's a good idea!
Nov. 18th, 2016 03:28 am (UTC)
I'm really surprised by this as all the links that you've provided went directly to that specific file and not a 'folder' from my memory (which I don't trust). Sorry to hear that this is happening to you and I hope that you won't have to take any drastic measures but... I would either set up a different Mediafire account or try MEGA, though I'm honestly not a fan.
Nov. 18th, 2016 03:29 am (UTC)
Yeah, yeah. Thanks for the suggestions! I appreciate it!
Nov. 18th, 2016 04:01 am (UTC)
How about password protecting the ZIP file that you put on MediaFire? 7-Zip lets you password protect files. That way, even if they download it, they cannot use it.
Nov. 18th, 2016 03:09 pm (UTC)
Oh my GOSH I hadn't thought of that! You're a genius!
Nov. 18th, 2016 05:47 am (UTC)
wow, I did not even know this was possible. O_O

It's just so rude to take things without asking, and I'm sorry to hear this is happening to you. I hope you can find a way to protect your private info.
Nov. 18th, 2016 03:09 pm (UTC)
Well everyone seems convinced it's not possible. Maybe I'm mistaken!

I´m dumbfounded! This is really weird, I hope you'll clear things up and don't get to upset about it, maybe change your passwords? I hope is not a hacker targeting you, please be careful, best of wishes dear!
Nov. 18th, 2016 03:10 pm (UTC)
Thank you so much! I just looked at how many times Ginza Neon had been DLd, and it's HUNDREDS, so the twosies and foursies seem really miniscule now.
Nov. 18th, 2016 11:16 am (UTC)
I didn't know you could track down the account from a single file, but I would also either create a separate account or protect the zip file with a password? That way even if it is downloaded by someone else, they can't make any use of it? :)
Nov. 18th, 2016 03:10 pm (UTC)
So smart! Thanks for the suggestion! <3

You don't use pw for zip/rar?
Is it just one file?

I'm a slow learner.
Nov. 18th, 2016 06:03 pm (UTC)
I'm sorry to hear that someone is downloading your files without permission. That is scary and very intrusive.
One solution I find is for you to put password at the files or created a new account.
